Supported Living Housing.

Step One Charity’s supported living houses provide a safe and supportive environment for people with mental health concerns or/and autism spectrum conditions to live more independently. Our dedicated support staff are available daily to provide one-to-one support, helping people to take the next step in their recovery, development and growth.

What is supported living?

Supported living is a type of housing and support service that empowers people to live as independently as possible. For those who aren’t ready to live independently, it can be a stepping stone from a family home or hospital. It can help people to develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive, and to access the services and support they need in the community.

What is supported living like with Step One?

Our supported living houses, featuring private bedrooms, communal areas, and gardens, are designed to promote independence and recovery. We understand that everyone’s needs are different, so we tailor our support to each person. Often we support people with how to take care of household duties such as cooking, cleaning and washing, along with managing finances and finding employment. We can also support people with their mental health and wellbeing and help them to access other services in the community.

Our dedicated support staff are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment where people feel respected and valued. They work closely with residents to develop personalised support plans that meet their individual needs.

Funding & Eligibility

Our supported living houses are funded by individual spot funding for each person, generally through Devon Partnership Trust or Devon County Council. To access the service, people must be referred by a Care Co-ordinator or Social Care Assessor.

“All staff are friendly, approachable and understanding to my needs. I feel comfortable and safe here and thankful for the support. I feel secure knowing I have the care and support of the staff in a relaxed and comfortable environment.”
