BeWell@StepOne course spotlight:
Resilience, Self-Care & Assertiveness
We understand that people can be nervous about joining online groups and discussing mental health issues. So, we’ve put together a course spotlight to make things a little easier when you’re deciding which of our courses will be best for you.
What is resilience, self-care and assertiveness?
Resilience is the ability to cope with the challenges, problems and set-backs we face in life, and to become stronger because of them. It relies on different skills and draws on various sources of help, including rational thinking skills, and a persons relationship with those around them and themselves.
Self-care and being mentally healthy should be important to each and every one of us. Although there are many professional support strategies available, self-care can make a huge difference in helping someone manage and improve their mental health. Self-care advice can include: Being active, getting enough sleep, eating healthy, relaxing, de-stressing, avoiding drugs and alcohol and making time for yourself.
Being assertive means being honest about your feelings – in a way that’s respectful to others. Being assertive can help you express your feelings, speak assertively and can help manage conflict with others. It can build your self-confidence and improve relationships in every area. A lack of assertiveness may contribute to depression and anxiety.
