Spring has sprung and April brings us a host of important dates to look forward to. From celebrating diversity to taking care of our mental and physical health, here are some key dates to look out for:

2nd April – World Autism Day

This is a day to promote awareness and acceptance of people with autism, and to highlight the need for better support and understanding for those living with autism.

5th April – Managing Your Anger Course

Managing Your Anger is a 4-week online course that allows you to consider the emotions under your anger, develop coping strategies, and allows you to discuss your own experiences. This isn’t about making anger disappear but using anger in a healthy and controlled way. During this course, we will be looking at ways to reduce the impact of both your emotional feelings and the psychological stimulation that anger causes.

7th April – World Health Day

World Health Day 2023 will focus on the theme, ‘Health for All,’ marking the 75th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO).

9th April – Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday is a day for Christians around the world to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the hope of new beginnings. Although Easter maintains great religious significance, many children in countries such as Australia, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, think of it as a time to celebrate spring, decorate eggs and participate in Easter egg hunts where eggs are hidden by the Easter Bunny.

11th April – World Parkinson’s Day

World Parkinson’s Day takes place on 11 April every year to raise awareness of Parkinson’s. Living with this neurological condition is tougher than people think. But it doesn’t define you. You are still you. You can still do amazing things in spite of Parkinson’s.

14th April – H.O.P.E for Anxiety and Depression Course

The H.O.P.E course (Helping Overcome Problems Effectively) is a 6-week online course developed by Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust designed to help people to cope better with their long-term health conditions.  Over the 6 weeks, you will work with trained facilitators to build your confidence and learn ways to help you better manage your long-term condition, including mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.

15th April – World Art Day

Each year, on 15th April, World Art Day celebrates the role of art and creativity in promoting positive change and bringing people together.

22nd April – World Earth Day

For the past 50 years, Earth Day has been celebrated by billions of people around the globe, annually every April 22, to join together in promoting awareness for the health of our environment. The Earth Day 2023 theme is ‘Invest in Our Planet’.

April is a month of diverse celebrations and opportunities for personal growth. Whether you’re learning new skills, raising awareness for important causes, or simply taking a moment to relax, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Let’s make the most of this month and embrace all that it has to offer!

Along with our BeWell@StepOne self-help courses and workshops, our experienced trainers also run weekly/fortnightly online and in-person peer support groups. These groups offer you an opportunity to meet others, share your experiences, discuss the techniques learnt in our courses, and develop self-management techniques to maintain good mental health.
