Granvue – A new chapter in supported living

Granvue - 24 hour supported living

Granvue has been an essential part of Step One’s journey for many years, offering a range of critical services to people with mental health needs. Originally located in Torquay and now in its current Newton Abbot location since 2018, Granvue has served in various roles, from providing crisis support to individuals before hospital admission, to acting as a residential rehabilitation service, and more recently, supporting individuals transitioning back into the community after a hospital stay.

Now, we’re excited to add a new chapter to Granvue’s story as we officially transition it into our first fully staffed, 24-hour supported living house.

The recent redesign of Granvue, funded by Step One reserves, allows us to support more people in achieving their personal goals. As a supported living service, Granvue now works proactively with people to increase their independence, providing the right balance of care and autonomy. Whether placements are long-term or short-term, Granvue serves as either a permanent home or part of their pathway to further independence.

The internal renovations carried out have enabled the building to expand from a 4-bedroom facility to a 6-bedroom house, offering increased capacity for those in need of this type of accommodation. We have also created a new office space, modernised the kitchen, refreshed the lounge areas, and converted the old office and dining room into bedrooms. This transformation has not only enhanced the quality of care we provide but also generated new job opportunities within the local community, including support work and community enabling support.

Granvue’s new role as a supported living house bridges the gap between our supported living properties and Cypress Hospital. This service is an integral part of Step One’s commitment to supporting people through a range of specialist mental health and wellbeing services. Whether residents see Granvue as their forever home or as part of their pathway toward more independent living, we’re proud to offer a safe and supportive space where they can thrive.
