Maisie’s story – National Apprenticeship Week 2022

National Apprentice week 2022

This week is National Apprenticeship Week! We’ve had some great people join Step One through our apprenticeship scheme. Here, we share the story of our HR and Training Administrator, Maisie.

Maisie’s Apprenticeship Story

Tell us a bit about yourself and your apprenticeship

Hi! I’m Maisie, I’m the HR and Training Administrator and have been working at Step One for just over 2 years. Last year I was offered the chance to do the CIPD level 3 so I could expand my knowledge and become a qualified HR professional. I started in September and study one day a week at Exeter College and the other four days are regular work days. So far the course is going really well!

What encouraged you to do an apprenticeship?

I knew it would be a really good way to develop and become a serious career option for me. I knew I would be silly to turn down the chance to develop professionally.

How have you benefitted from doing your apprenticeship?

It’s made me realise even more how much I enjoy working in HR and has given me so much more confidence. I used to feel very unsure about what I wanted to do as a career, but doing this course has shown me opportunities and pathways I didn’t even know were there. I’m hoping to go on and do the next level up once this course is complete.

What do you love the most about your apprenticeship?

My favourite thing has been meeting other people in the HR network through the people on my course and hearing about their experiences.

What would you say to anyone who is thinking about becoming an apprentice?

I would say to do it, it’s such a great way to learn and meet new people. It can be such a good stepping stone into a career you’ll love.
