As March arrives, the official start of spring and the daylight saving time adjustment are not the only events to look forward to. This month also hosts various holidays and observances that you can participate in, along with our upcoming BeWell courses and workshops which are designed to equip Devon residents with the knowledge and skills to help you manage your mental health and wellbeing.

1st March – Self-Injury Awareness Day

This day is a global awareness event recognised on March 1. It draws attention to self-harm in the hope of helping people who practice it. The idea is to eradicate the common clichés surrounding self-harm and to educate medical professionals about it.

2nd March – World Book Day

World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. The mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.

6th March – Declutter Your Home and Mind course

This course will help you to realise the effect of clutter in your home on your mental health. Most of us want our homes to be our sanctuary, a place where we can feel relaxed in our bodies and minds, but clutter in the home can actually cause a lot of stress.  When we declutter, it helps us to feel more in control.

23rd March – Changing Negative Self-Talk workshop

We all have that little voice that makes us doubt ourselves, or gives us that internal negative feedback. This workshop will help you to challenge that voice and consider alternative possibilities to make your inner voice more positive!

30th March – World Bipolar Day

World Bipolar Day is celebrated each year on 30 March, the birthday of Vincent Van Gogh, who was diagnosed with bipolar after he died. The vision of World Bipolar Day is to encourage understanding about what bipolar is – and isn’t – and to banish stigma from the face of the planet.

30th March – Social Anxiety workshop

Social anxiety disorder’ or ‘social phobia’ is a fear of social situations. Often people with social anxiety will avoid social situations at all costs. This 2-hour workshop will explore negative core beliefs and discuss various strategies to improve social interaction.

Along with our BeWell@StepOne self-help courses and workshops, our experienced trainers also run weekly/fortnightly online and in-person peer support groups. These groups offer you an opportunity to meet others, share your experiences, discuss the techniques learnt in our courses, and develop self-management techniques to maintain good mental health.
