The Platinum Pudding Competition

The Platinum Pudding Competition

Fortnum and Mason has launched a nationwide competition to find the pudding to celebrate the Queen in her Platinum Jubilee year.

Buckingham Palace has announced a nationwide baking competition open to all UK residents aged eight and over to create a “Platinum Pudding”.

On 6th February this year Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

The winning pudding will be an important part of the celebrations marking Her Majesty’s 70 years as a Monarch. The creator of the winning pudding will be invited to be at the centre of the celebrations.

Applications are welcomed from UK residents aged 8 and over. The recipes will be judged by an expert panel including Dame Mary Berry, Monica Galetti and Buckingham Palace Head Chef Mark Flanagan.

Get cooking, and your creation could be a joyful and delicious part of the first ever Platinum Jubilee. You have until 4 Feb to submit your entries.

Things you may want to consider:

1. Does it taste just right?

Even though the judges won’t be able to taste your pudding, unless it makes it to the ‘live bake’ of the final round, you still need to ensure that the ingredient list is 100% accurate – a degree of imprecision will affect the flavour. It needs to taste delicious.

2. Is it perfect for home bakers?

Your pudding needs to be easy enough for people across the country to recreate at home! Try t use ingredients and kitchen equipment readily available to people all over the world, rather than fancy gadgets and rare flowers only grown in your garden.

3. Is it a memorable story?

The judges are looking for a pudding made with pride and passion, they want to hear a story behind your entry. Is the recipe inspired by The Queen herself? Or has it been a recipe handed own through the generations of your family? They’d love to know!

4. Is it fit for The Queen?

Yes! Your very own pudding will be served to Her Majesty The Queen, so it needs to look the part! Decorative flourishes always help – remember to make your photograph nice and clear too for the judges to see your masterpiece in all its glory.
